Further Mathematics: Extension GCSE
The department uses the AQA exam board to deliver a Certificate in Further Mathematics Level 2 (GCSE equivalent).
The qualification is designed for high-achieving pupils who are expected to achieve a grade 8 or 9 in GCSE mathematics. Higher order mathematical skills are studied in great depth with an emphasis on algebraic reasoning, rigorous argument and problem-solving skills. Pupils following this course will be well prepared for A level mathematics and Further Mathematics.
It is hoped that pupils who decide to take this course will develop a fascination for mathematics be inspired and challenged by the rigorous nature of the course and be able to appreciate the power of mathematics for its own sake as well as a problem-solving tool. This course will enable pupils to demonstrate their natural mathematical talent, it will be challenging and at the same time extremely inspiring and enjoyable.

- Geometry;
- Calculus;
- Matrices.
The scheme of assessment
This course is assessed in Year 11 based on 100% external examinations.
