Girls’ Rugby Sevens Tournament Showcases Top Talent

Last weekend (Saturday 15 March) saw the 3rd annual Hill House Girls’ Rugby Sevens Tournament held at the school’s Blaxton Sports Grounds. The tournament, now firmly placed as the region’s premier showcase for club and school Rugby Sevens for girls, was played out under crisp blue skies with a large crowd in support.
The Under 14 tournament was a close run one, with a strong Mansfield Rugby Club team coming out ahead of King’s School Pontefract and Hill House. In the Under 16 Tournament, a pivotal encounter between old friends and rivals Selby RFC and Hill House saw the Doncaster girls coming out on top. New entrants Stonyhurst College were most welcome as they played their first ever rugby tournament.
Head of Girls’ Rugby at Hill House, Jacob Robinson, was delighted with the success of the day, saying "To see 9 teams of girls coming together for the day is great news for the sport in our region. Some of the rugby was of the highest quality."
The Hill House girls, having recently returned from their first ever rugby tour, during which they played clubs in the South West, now look forward to the chance of reclaiming their National Sevens title at Rosslyn Park in the coming weeks.
