Hill House Pupils Shine at BISMUN Conference

This past weekend, eleven pupils from Years 9 to Upper Sixth set off for the annual Bath International Schools Model United Nations (BISMUN) conference, hosted by Kingswood School. Competing against over 30 schools from across the UK, as well as international participants from Mexico and Northern Ireland, our Hill House pupils demonstrated exceptional diplomacy and debate skills.
Representing the nations of Guyana and Ukraine, they faced challenging topics, particularly those representing Ukraine, given recent world events. Across three days, they engaged in rigorous debates within their committees, each consisting of over 60 delegates. Topics ranged from technology to human rights, testing their research, negotiation, and public speaking abilities.
Beyond the conference rooms, pupils had the opportunity to explore the historic city of Bath in the evenings, visiting iconic sites such as the Circus, Bath Abbey, and Pulteney Bridge. The conference culminated in a thrilling emergency debate on former U.S. President Donald Trump's hypothetical acquisition of the Panama Canal, where our Guyana delegation addressed the entire conference with compelling arguments.
A strong performance from our pupils was reflected in several prestigious awards, showcasing their growing confidence, maturity, and skills:
- Commended Delegates: Marianne Flack and Anehita Inegbedion
- Highly Commended: Harry Humphries
- Best Young Delegate: Sofia Love-Money
- Best Delegate: Daisy De Roeck-Davies
- Commended Delegation: Ukraine
Congratulations to all our participants on a successful conference! They learnt invaluable lessons in diplomacy and international relations while representing the school with dignity and poise. Well done!
