Young Spellers Shine at Annual Spelling Bee

Hill House School was buzzing with excitement last night as it proudly hosted the 4th annual Doncaster and District Spelling Bee. The event saw 15 junior schools come together in an exciting showcase of spelling talent, with each school bringing a team of five Year 5 and Year 6 pupils.
The competition commenced with an initial written round, testing the spelling skills of all participants. As scores were carefully tallied, the audience was treated to two fantastic musical performances. David Kumar from Hill House wowed the crowd with his own original song Home, while fellow Hill House pupil, Eva Mason, delivered a wonderful rendition of I Know Things Now by Stephen Sondheim.
Following the musical interlude, certificates were awarded to the top individual spellers from each school. The excitement then intensified as the top 15 overall spellers progressed to the second round, competing for the top prizes of the evening.
After a fierce battle of words, Shuuder Erdembileg from Town Field Primary School emerged as the overall winner. However, the competition remained intense, requiring two additional rounds to determine the second and third places. After much anticipation, Denis Ates from Scawsby Junior Academy was awarded second place, with Charlie Timms from Copley Junior School securing third. The overall team award went to Town Field School.
The event was a fantastic display of hard work, determination, and support, with all participants demonstrating impressive spelling skills under pressure. A huge thank-you goes out to all the schools that took part, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting Spelling Bee next year!
