A Level Pupils' Visit to the Heart of UK Politics
The Hill House Lower Sixth Politics pupils set out on a trip to the heart of government on Monday 14 October with a full programme of events to develop their understanding of the world of Politics.
The first stop was the UK Supreme Court with a guided tour and a chance to reflect upon the role of this relatively new body in UK Politics. After a walking tour of Whitehall and a visit to No 10 Downing Street, they had a guided tour of Parliament, dropping in to debates in the Houses of Lords and Commons.
During a 'Parties and Elections' seminar, they had the great pleasure of a visit from the local MP, Mr Lee Pitcher, who talked through his time in parliament so far and answered a range of challenging questions from the pupils, who really appreciated the time he took from his busy schedule to meet them.
A final visit to the recently opened National Portrait Gallery, to look at the fine collection of political portraits from Cromwell to Thatcher, completed this insightful day.
