National Schools’ Rugby Sevens Championships
A record number of Hill House teams competed last week at the world’s biggest school Rugby Sevens Championships at Rosslyn Park in London.
With 2 girls’ teams competing for the first time, the U16 team played superbly, including an exciting win over King Edward’s, Bath, until going out against the eventual winners, Ivybridge College, and giving them their hardest game.
The U14 girls, who were defending their title, blazed a trail through the group stages, scoring over 100 points and conceding only 15, before falling agonisingly short in the dying seconds of the quarter-final against one of the international entrants, from Dubai.
On the boys’ side, the 1st VII came 2nd in their pool, including strong victories over King’s Ely and Latymer Upper School, and the U13s also came 2nd in their section, on points difference, including excellent wins over Epsom College and Stonyhurst College.
The U14s became the school’s first boys’ team to qualify for the second day, including strong wins against Warminster and Uppingham.
