Hill House returned to Kingswood School on the weekend of the 3 March for the 32^nd BISMUN (Bath International Schools Model United Nations), with the hopes of building upon the success of previous conferences. We took 2 delegations (11 pupils in total), who represented North Korea and Albania, to take part in debates across a range of committees such as Human Rights and the Environment.

The conference began with a moving speech from a Ukrainian student from Kingswood, who spoke of his experience being in Ukraine at the beginning of the war. Students then spent most of the weekend in their committees, debating and attempting to find resolution in a range of challenging topics. The delegations enjoyed dinner on Friday and Saturday night as a welcome break from intense debate of the two and a half days in conference.

The final phase of the conference was the General Assembly, where all delegates gathered to discuss an imaginary “emergency debate”. This year, the topic was focussed upon the Middle East. Here, Lexie Owens (Year 11) and Mackenzie Alexander-Smith (Upper Sixth) presented an amendment for debate to the whole conference with confidence and assuredness.

A successful completion to the busy weekend saw awards for:

Mackenzie Alexander-Smith – Best Delegate (Science and Technology Committee), his second successive award, and a great achievement ahead of 100s of fellow delegates.

Grace Arnold (Year 11) – Commended Delegate (Environment Committee).
