Hundreds of Doncaster children came together last weekend to compete in the Doncaster and District Cross Country Competition, which returned after a 2-year break.

Fifteen schools from across the district competed in the competition hosted by Hill House School, across four team categories including U9 Girls, U9 Boys, U11 Girls and U11 Boys. For the first time, individual entries were also welcomed resulting in a record-breaking 250 children competing.

The course at the award-winning independent school in Auckley, included a lap of the sports field, 2 laps for the older age group, and a route through the adjoining woodland trail. Children were cheered on to the finish line by hundreds of families and spectators who turned out to show their support.

The competition was organised by Hill House School’s Head of PE, Mr Keyworth. He said, “It was fantastic to welcome the children and schools back for the competition after such a long break. It was a wonderful atmosphere, and the children gave their very best.”

Hill House Headmaster, Mr Holland presented the Overall Winners, Hill House School with a new shield which was dedicated to Mr Keyworth in recognition of his 28 years’ service to the school and his upcoming retirement, meaning that this was his final Cross Country competition.

Mr Holland said, “I want to thank Mr Keyworth for his service and dedication to the school. The Cross-Country competition in particular has been a great success in bringing so many local schools together to celebrate this sport and the new ‘Chris Keyworth Shield’ means that his dedication and efforts will always be remembered.”
