Unveiling the Inspiring Hill House Lecture Series 2024/2025!
We are thrilled to announce our exciting Hill House Lecture programme for 2024/2025!
Starting from Michaelmas Term in September, the Hill House Lectures will take flight as we welcome GB hockey Legend, Sam Quek!
Olympic Gold Medallist for Hockey and TV Personality, Sam Quek, will join us on Tuesday 8 October for the first of the year’s lectures, where she will talk about her impressive career both on and off the field.
Sam has achieved remarkable success both as an athlete and a broadcaster. With 125 caps for the England and GB women's hockey teams, she played a crucial role in winning the Gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, earning an MBE for her contributions to hockey. Transitioning to broadcasting, she has become a prominent presenter, hosting shows like BBC’s "Morning Live" and "A Question of Sport," and co-hosting the Eurovision opening ceremony and the Olympic Breakfast program during the Tokyo Olympics. Her versatility extends to covering various sports and co-hosting BBC5 Live Radio’s “606”. Additionally, she has made notable appearances on "I’m a Celebrity….Get Me Out of Here" and was a runner-up on "Celebrity Masterchef" in 2020.
The Hill House Lecture programme has been running since 2017 and has welcomed an array of prestigious thinkers and inspirational leaders to take to the stage and captivate the minds of audiences from in and around Doncaster.
The lectures are always completely free of charge to attend and open to everyone.
Headmaster of Hill House School, Mr David Holland, said: “we are delighted to be able to offer these lectures available to everybody for free – to offer an opportunity to actively engage with experts and learn from their experiences. I’m particularly excited by this year’s line-up as we really feel like there is something for everyone – from Sport to Politics and Poetry to Science! Please do come along and make the most of this fantastic series of events.”
Following in Sam’s footsteps for the lecture series over the coming year, Hill House Lectures will also welcome Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, Lord Kim Darroch, former British ambassador to the USA, and Professor Sophie Scott CBE, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience, well-known for her research in the neuroscience of human communication, as well as her popular TED Talk on why we laugh and her frequent appearances TV, radio and podcasts.
